Source & Summit Missal 2026

The liturgical year ends on Christ the King Sunday! (November 23) When one liturgical year ends, we put updated editions of the pew missal out for the new liturgical year. The ‘pew missal’ is the book that has all the readings & hymns that we use at Mass each week. There are no major changes to what we are used to with this resource, as the biggest difference is simply color of the book itself.

The 2026 edition of the Source & Summit Missal will be in the pews on November 25, ready for use on the First Sunday of Advent on November 30. Here is a brief overview of the missal:

  • Same dimensions & formatting as last year (readings & antiphons in date order, hymns in alphabetical order, etc.)
  • Cover art features an image of St. Cecilia, with an inscription on the banner at her feet: “Cantate in cordibus vestris Domino”, which translates “Sing to the Lord in your hearts.” This phrase is taken from Ephesians 5:19, echoing what tradition holds St. Cecilia herself did, which is part of why she is regarded as the patroness of music.
  • Larger font size for hymn lyrics compared to 2025 Missal!
    • (this was an initial piece of feedback shared from some of our own parishioners, which I passed on to the Source & Summit team earlier this year– very pleased to see the immediate response!)
  • New Devotional Prayers: the Litanies of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Most Holy Name of Jesus, the Blessed Virgin Mary (the Litany of Loretto), and the Litany of Saint Joseph. It also includes the seven penitential Psalms within the section with resources for Confession.
  • More copies ordered to accommodate our need in the Magnificat Chapel

Source & Summit has a full blog post detailing everything that is new or updated in this year’s edition if you would like to read more. For us at Sts. Anne & Joachim, nothing major will be different from our weekly experience of Mass together.

I continue to hear the voices of our parish rising as one in praise of God during our weekly liturgies, and it is such a gift to be a part of a parish that sings and prays so beautifully! If there is anything I can do to support you in song & prayer, please reach out to my direct office line at: (701)-612-2477, or by e-mail at: pmcguire@stsaaj.org

I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy;

I will sing and chant praise to the LORD.
